What's the big deal?
Double data rate (DDR) SDRAM does exactly what it sounds like — it doubles the rate of speed at which standard SDRAM can process data. That means DDR is roughly twice as fast as standard SDRAM.
While DDR SDRAM chips have been used for some time in graphics cards and game consoles, Crucial Technology was the first factory-direct source of DDR SDRAM modules for hardware developers. Now, we have fully qualified PC1600 and PC2100 DDR upgrades available. That's big news for those who have been eagerly anticipating the next generation of memory.
Will it work in my system?
The short answer is probably not — yet. DDR is so far on the leading edge of technology that it will take a while for the rest of the computer industry to catch up.
DDR memory modules won't fit in standard SDRAM DIMM slots, so you can't plug DDR into your current system and make it twice as fast. In fact, right now only a handful of motherboards and systems will take DDR SDRAM modules.
How do I order? It's easy! If you have a DDR compatible system, simply select your manufacturer and model into Crucial's Memory Selector™, and they'll find the DDR that's guaranteed to be compatible with your system satisfaction guaranteed!
